I received many messages, from a variety of sources, announcing the upcoming changes to the Henderson Bridge traffic patterns. According to the RIDOT press release, they are heading into the second phase of the Henderson Bridge repairs. This means cyclists will now need to ride on the Southern sidewalk when heading into Providence and can again ride the road (or the Southern sidewalk) when leaving Providence. RIDOT produced this map to help explain the traffic changes:
According to the press release,
The bridge’s original left lanes will remain closed permanently.
This is news to me and not part of what I recall as part of the long term plans. I wonder if upon doing repairs, RIDOT found more extensive damage than originally thought?
