Take a look at possible Providence bike/ped bridge designs

November 3, 2010 by RI BIke

Providence had an opening today (Wed) to show the public possible designs for a proposed bike/pedestrian bridge across the Providence River on the piers of the old I-195. There were 11 design firms submitting drawings, identified only by a number 1 to 11. There was a box provided where the public could submit comments.

All this will be available for viewing on the 3rd floor of Prov City Hall thru most of November, during city hall normal opening hours.

Design info is also available thru the Providence Planning Department web-site.

I think the city planners are to be praised for encouraging imaginative and even daring visionary proposals. Some I thought were impractical, my favorte was design #9. I recommend the bike community take a look at this potentially important project that might help build a bike cultire here and help in the restoraton of our core city and see what you think.
