STC Meeting Update

February 13, 2008 by RI BIke

A small contingent from Bike-To-Brown, Brown Cycling, and other concerned cyclists attended todays State Traffic Commission (STC) meeting.  The agenda item we were most interested in was the RIDOT proposal restricting bicycles from the Henderson Bridge roadway during the upcoming construction project.  I wrote up an extended post on the Bike-To-Brown website, so take a trip over there if you want all the details.

The short story is that the vote was tabled until the next STC meeting, giving RIDOT some more time to address our concerns.  In my opinion, it’s likely that the restriction will be put in place, but we are hopeful that RIDOT will provide us with accommodations to make the sidewalk more usable, i.e. actually extending both sidewalks into East Providence rather than having them stop at the bridge.
