No Respect

January 29, 2009 by RI BIke

I don’t know about the rest of you, but I’ve become increasingly annoyed by the way various cities and organizations have been handling snow removal.  I’ve completely lost track of how many sidewalks have had 4+ foot snow piles dumped on them by snow plows, bike racks that are completely plowed under, and sidewalks that are just plain treacherous.  I understand that this “might” be an unusual winter for Rhode Island, but it’s not THAT much snow.  Come on, there are plenty of places that get far more snow than this and they don’t behave in the same way.

257I went for a swim last weekend at Roger Williams University and snapped this fine shot in disgust outside their recreation center.  You would think a University would “get” alternative transporation and realize that their students could well be getting around campus by bicycle.  Yet, they complete manage to block the only bike rack at the recreation center.  The picture doesn’t show it well, but one side of the rack must have five feet of snow in front of it.
