First Annual BikeFest RI, May 11

BikeFest RI is the bike festival to kick off the biking season in RI.  This first annual festival kicks off a series of events over the course of the summer starting with BikeFest in May and ending with the Providence Cyclocross Festival in October.  The festival welcomes anything that promotes, sells, or services the activity in the state  The event coincides with the beginning of Bike-To-Work Week and is just one of many National Bike Month events around the state.
The festival includes:
Family Friendly: Helmet fitting and safety, Bicycle Trail Groups and info, Safety Advocacy and info, Repair workshops, Bike Travel.
Kids Learn to Ride: WeeBikeShop will be on hand with balance bikes to teach kids basic riding skills

Bike Valet: Park you bike safely if you ride to the festival

BMX: Trick Demos and Equipment
Parts Swap: Rare and difficult to find parts, and replacement parts.

Bike vendors:  Find your next bike…..new and/or used

Entertainment: Music from Music One, 3Piece Suit, Rich Ferri and more; Mayor and City police bike donation; Bikes for Refugees, T-shirt printing on site. Velo-Sprints.
Food: Six Rhode Island food trucks, pudding pops, coffee and more.

Inaugural Rhode Island Bicycle Festival on May 11


Providence, RI – Apr 25, 2013 – The first annual BikeFest RI is on Saturday, May 11, 2013, 10AM to 4PM at the MET School, 325 Public Street, Providence.  BikeFest RI is a project of the MET School, Recycle-A-Bike and the Rhode Island Bicycle Coalition.

Family friendly activities scheduled throughout the day include bicycle trick demonstrations from Circuit BMX, learn to ride area for children under 7, meet the Providence Bicycle Police and live music.  Rhode Island Hospital and RIDOT will be on hand with a limited supply of free helmets.

Other attractions include sales of new and used bicycles, a bicycle parts swap. Stationary bike races and workshops on commuting and maintenance are also available.  Local bicycling and outdoor related businesses will be on hand to share information about their products and various options for riding around the state.  Attendees will also be able to enjoy offerings from a variety of food trucks and bicycle based food vendors.

In the afternoon Mayor Taveras and Commissioner Pare will be making presentations. Refugees making their home in Rhode Island are given bicycles by The International Institute.
