Rhode Island Bicycle Coalition is deeply disappointed that Governor Raimondo’s $64-million bond proposal includes no mention of bike projects. Despite a complete Statewide Bike Mobility Plan which calls for significant investment in bike infrastructure across the state, the new bond proposal ignores the obvious benefits of supporting the only zero-emission vehicles available today.
Viable transportation alternatives are key for improving roadway safety, promoting economic development, fighting climate change, reversing obesity, combating urban health issues and reducing traffic. Bicycle infrastructure is a small investment with an outsized return. We urge the Governor to reconsider.
Of course, this is a proposal and, therefore, open for negotiation. All residents of Rhode Island should let their elected officials know their feelings about the proposed budget.
