Providence Core Connector Study Open House

September 10, 2010 by RI BIke

In a recent communication from the CTC, we learned that

RIPTA and the City of Providence will be hosting three open houses on September 21, 22 and 23 to engage the public in the Core Connector Study (the feasibility study that will examine the possibility of streetcar or another urban circulator mode for the Downtown core).

The Core Connector Study is a partnership between RIPTA and the City of Providence to examine the feasibility, cost and benefits of improving transit within the central core of the City, connecting the College Hill, Downtown and Upper South Providence neighborhoods. The study will examine options for connecting the significant educational, medical, employment and cultural destinations in this corridor with the central bus hub in Kennedy Plaza and rail services at the Providence MBTA/Amtrak station. Members of the public are encouraged to attend the community open houses in September to help plan how transit might improve mobility and strengthen Downtown, Upper South Providence, and College Hill.

Meeting opportunities are:

  1. Open House #1 – College Hill – Tuesday, September 21, 2010 (5-7 PM)
Brown RISD Hillel Center, 80 Brown St., Providence
    (Brief presentation at 6 PM)
  2. Open House #2 – Upper South Providence – Wednesday, September 22, 2010 (5-7 PM)
Edmund Flynn Elementary School, 220 Blackstone St, Providence
    (Brief presentation at 6 PM)
  3. Open House #3 – Downtown – Thursday, September 23, 2010 (12:30-2 PM)
The Commerce Center at 30 Exchange Terrace, Providence
    (Brief presentation at 1 PM)

The same information will be available at all three meetings. The Core Connector Study also has its own website: www.providencecoreconnector.com which will be growing in the coming days with information about the project so please check back often.

Please make an effort to attend one of these meetings and remind everyone that bicycles need to be accommodated with any plan.
