Good for Newport! I like the idea "avoid your car"

I might note another Moving Planet event the same day, Saturday Sept 24, at the other end of the state in Woonsocket from 10am to 2pm at the YWCA, 514 Blackstone St where the focus will be on a variety of measures to reduce climate emissions including higher auto efficiency standards (being resisted by the auto dealers) complete streets and related support to biking/walking, transit improvements and such. Call the Sierra Club office, 521-4734 if more info needed.

It also might be an opportunity to sound out Woonsocket folks about their hopes for completing the Blackstone Bikeway.

Wouldn't it be nice to go to Newport safely by bike? Alas, it's nearly impossible because of bridge bans and inadequacies. And when you get there, the city is bike unfriendly in every sense. Newport is set up for you to hook a bike on the back of your subcompact, pass through, but not park. It's really sad. You can be sure some fad sharrows will eventually show up then fade.
