Another Hearing on East Bay Path Sewer Work

Another Hearing on East Bay Path Sewer Work

East Providence Seal - Source:

East Providence Seal - Source: City of East Providence has scheduled a public hearing at City Hall on June 1 in Room 306 at 7 p.m.

It is unclear from the Patch article what the agenda and purpose of the meeting is, as it seems based on prior reporting that the plan is essentially already in place and will disrupt a section of the path from November 2011 to April 2012.  I’m not familiar with all of the place names and the exact section of path being closed.  Is there an alternative route that will be signed for path users to get around the closed section safely?  I don’t recall there being such for the last closure between Riverside Square and Crescent View Ave.

I brought this issue up at a meeting of the Environmental Council last week w/RIDOT Director Lewis. One interesting factoid came up during this meeting, RIDOT has not yet given approval to EP for use of the right of way along the bike path. My gut tells me it will happen, but as of right now, it's not a done deal that EP will be able to use this route. That said, RIDOT stands ready to work with advocates to see what can be done from their end to secure a safe detour during the duration of the work. Now we need to get EP on board. There is a group of advocates from Bike-to-Brown who have stepped forward and said they will work on this issue.
