Bike to Work Day – May 20th

Bike to Work Day – May 20th

We are pleased to report that planning for Bike to Work Day are in full swing.  This year festivities will be held on May 20th.

Thanks to generous financial support from the NBW, we will be celebrating in Providence and, for the first time every, Newport!

More details will be forthcoming, but please hold the date and plan for some biking fun on May 20th.  Hope to see you there!

Yay! Happy to lead the Western South County group in, again.

Yeah, Anj, ironic that they are holding a commuter breakfast in nearby Newport, but you have to bicycle through Providence to get there from South County. This after they accepted federal money for bridges and responsibility to make them bikeable. How many years ago was that now? 8? 10? If not immediately, when? If deemed too dangerous, then how did they plan to make it impossible? Cable car under Newport Bridge? Separate lane on Jamestown Bridge (I-95 over Connecticut River has one)?

Meantime, we do have our RIPTA rack and ride… but I agree. I wish the bridges were bikeable. When I was working in Newport and Jamestown, biking to work was pretty much impossible. I'm happy I work in Providence, now! Although, I have to say, I was admiring all of the bike-path adjacent homes on my way up through Coventry, West Warwick and Cranston today! As I rode up, I imagined what life would be like if I owned a home on the bike path. I would definitely sell my car.

I think a bike infrastructure takes time. I have noticed so much change in the past four years.
