GREEN PARTY: Senate candidate killed while biking (09/22/2010
From today’s Energy and Environment Reporter.
How is it possible that the driver of the SUV didn’t realize she had a bicycle wedged under her car after she hit and killed the cyclist? This is in Maryland, but I wonder if the police will be any more aggressive in handling this outrageous case than they have been here!

The Maryland Green Party candidate for U.S. Senate died early yesterday after being hit by an SUV while riding her bike Sunday.
Natasha Pettigrew was training for a triathlon early Sunday morning when she was hit by a Cadillac Escalade. The driver did not realize that she had hit the 30-year-old candidate until after returning home and finding Pettigrew’s bicycle wedged underneath the vehicle.
Pettigrew, a law student, said on her campaign website that she chose to run as a Green Party candidate because of the party’s 10 Key Values. The Marylander said she saw the state as “a large community of several million people and we can all make a difference together.”
Pettigrew described herself as an avid athlete. “During my free time I enjoy swimming, biking, and running,” she said on her website. “I was never happier than when I found out about triathlon, which puts all three sports together at once as a sporting event.”
Pettigrew was seeking the seat of four-term Sen. Barbara Mikulski (D), who is heavily favored for re-election.
