Providence Cycling Maps at Legend Bicycle
From Jack @ Legend Bicycles:
Legend Bicycle – Fox Point’s neighborhood bike shop – is pleased to introduce the first edition of the Lay o’ the Land – A Wayfinding Guide for Cyclists and Urban Explorers. This cycling map of Greater Providence highlights useful cycling roads within the Interstate 295 corridor based on over twenty years of urban cycling by its creator Jack Madden.
Providence is a great city for the transportation cyclist given its density, comfortable climate, and interesting cultural and natural history. One barrier to making bicycling an accessible transportation option to many, however, is an overly automobile-centric orientation to the urban environment. On a typical road map, the highway is front and center. Lay o’the Land highlights “useful cycling roads” while the highways are shown as just another landmark like the rivers and coastline found here at the head of Narragansett Bay. Other highlights include bike paths, bike lanes, bike shops, parks, schools and public libraries.
Maps are $5 or come included with every purchase of new bikes from Fuji, SE, and Surly bicycles. 10% of the sale of the maps will go to Providence Bicycle Coalition (www.bikeprovidence.org) – sponsor of the annual Bike to
Work Day Friday May 15, 2009.
Use Lay o’the Land to chart a course to your everyday destinations. Whether you’re a native cyclist simply trying to find a better route from home to work, or a vacationer visiting Providence for the first time, Lay o’the Land can help orient you to the street level with suggestions for which roads can get you where you need to go. Come to Legend Bicycle today and get the Lay o’the Land!
The PBC would like to thank Legend Bicycles for their generous donation of 10% of the proceeds from these map sales!
