RI Hospital Bike Parking

RI Hospital Bike Parking

The following news comes to us via Mark Greeve:

I received good news from RI Hospital regarding bike parking on the hospital campus. In an ironic turn of events the smoking shacks are to be converted into bike racks when the hospital moves to a smoke free campus on november 1. This will provide employees, patients and visitors multiple covered bike racks and hopefully further promote a healthy lifestyle to the community. As all hospitals in RI are to become smoke free on November 1 hopefully more will follow RI Hospitals lead.

Now we just need a good safe way to get to and from the hospital, so your average cyclist doesn’t fear for their life if the need to ride to or from the hospital.

During a relative's long stay, I had the happy accident of exiting Jane Brown by the back (stairwell) door, where those smoking cabanas are. Next visit I took my bike and chained it to the wrought iron fence, joining several other cyclists who'd done the same. The door can only be opened with a badge or by someone exiting. A little patience, because enough people are coming and going to let you slip in conveniently.

Btw: busses with rack-n-ride do visit front door, with no racks. Better, you can get to hospital from Point St over I-95 on the new bridge to Plain St and Borden, to back entrance. Agreed, Eddy St, otherwise bikeable, breaks down badly at hospital and underpass, where pavement is ruined.
