I was fascinated to hear today of Andy Pierson's plan for the Blackstone-EBBP on-street connection. Andy is Initiative Coordinator for the Blackstone Valley Tourism Council.

They are seeking funding for a bold new project that will paint a stripe - not a bike lane or path but merely a colored stripe in gutter or on curb - that indicates the best streets to take to go from Central Falls to India Park. The route has been decided, all familiar roads to cyclists: Alfred Stone, Blackstone Blvd, River Road, Gano. At various points, e.g., Roosevelt Blvd, sharrows will alert motorists to cyclists in their lane.

They don't want to wait 6 to 10 years for RIDOT's official bikeway, feel it's important to make an interim accommodation. Includes something I've been talking about for at almost a decade: an actual bikepath that tangents from Gano through a city park along waterfront to Pitman St; supposedly, path will sit atop a flood control levee.

What remains is to get riders to use this route, which is why I promised to pass along this info. Since it will only be paint on streets already being ridden, don't think that'll be much of an issue.
